Presidents Corner : April 2026
By Steve Adams
Good day all!
My-oh-My, what a difference a single year makes! In 2025 we had one of our better snowpacks
in recent years; in 2026 we’re seeing record lows. Hoping some more comes down before the
weather warms up!
What this year may mean to us all is the opportunity for everyone to practice their ability to
read the slightly deeper channel through that gravel bar and spin-to-win moves to avoid those
shallow rocks and obstacles. It also emphasizes the importance of knowing how to get out of a
tight spot – please consider taking or re-taking the OWA’s River Safety Training, this year being
held over the weekend of May 2 & 3 at Dodge Park. This is a class I wished I had first taken in
my 20’s instead of my 50’s. You will gain an abundance of knowledge that you will find useful
on a river, either this year or a future year! And one of the benefits of being a member is a
greatly discounted price.
We’re an ever-changing rafting club, with new people joining us. Whether you’ve been with us
for a while or only recently, we’re always looking for enthusiastic members to help with
planning, training, and leading trips. If you have an interest in volunteering or leading a trip, let
us know! And keep an eye on the calendar and join the fun, and please think of joining us at our
next club meeting, April 8 th at Flying Pie Pizza!
Beyond that, Spring is here, which brings the best rafting to many rivers. May you find your
happy place surrounded by whitewater, beautiful scenery, friends & family, the sun on your
face, and peace in your heart!
Happy Rafting!
